Rebecca Moses could never in a million years thought she was having a stroke at an age of 27.
One morning last year, Moses got a terrible headache. By midafternoon, she couldn't see the phone to call her fiance's number and she could barely walk. But she never thought she was having a stroke. "That's what old people do," she said.
Moses was fortunate. Her mom got to her side within 15 minutes of her phone call. "I had problems with speaking intelligibly. The doctor would ask me what color his hair was and I would say 'blue,' in all seriousness. So, you could tell there was something wrong in my brain," Moses told Kwan, NBC5 reporter.
As Moses recovers, a new technology, NOVA, is transforming her treatment. Included in that technology are 3-D images of the blood vessels in her brain. "They are healthy again," Kwan said. The NOVA program, which produced the images and flow measurement used in Moses' treatment, enabled her doctor Fady Charbel to tell that she didn't need surgery. Instead, her treatment will be careful medication.
